Trap, evolve and fight in Invizimals: Battle Hunters

Invizimals: Battle Hunters is a free-to-play strategy game with RPG elements in which you roam around the world trapping and collecting magical animals. As you train them, they'll evolve into more and more powerful forms, which you can use to battle against other animals. Essentially, it's a Pokemon-alike, but a stylish and engaging one with some unique elements.

Joining the fight

There's a lot of content in Invizimals: Battle Hunters, but it's well-presented and the controls are simple. Your outpost consists of a group of buildings, each of which has a particular function in training and battling. You can also move around the world map detecting and collecting Invizimals. Combat between Invizimals includes some very simple arcade elements, you'll need to tap to attack and evade at the correct time to win the fight, as well as moving into tactically valuable positions and luring or knocking your opponents into traps. There's also resource management -- you have not only gems, but also sparks, which you use to buy radar devices for detecting Invizimals. In addition to the various Invizimals you'll be fighting, there are also Xtractors, the franchise's robotic baddies. For a simple battle game, it's actually quite rich.

Simple fun

The heart of Invizimals: Battle Hunters is its arena battles, which have a surprising amount of tactical depth. The usual mobile-game grinding and in-app purchases detract from this a little, though.

PROS

  • Fun arena battles
  • Cute kid-friendly graphics

CONS

  • Reliance on in-app purchases
  • Non-battle gameplay eventually gets pretty repetitive
